Greenwich High School Cheer Team Finishes Off 'Triple Crown' Season

GREENWICH, CT — For the first time in the 17-year history of the New England Interscholastic Spirit Championship, a cheer team from Connecticut has captured the Division 1 title, and that team hails from Greenwich.

On March 22, the Greenwich High School varsity cheer team won first place in a competition that included top teams from public and private high schools in Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Connecticut.

The Cardinals' victory capped off an unprecedented "triple crown" season in which the squad won the FCIAC Class LL, state and regional titles.

"I truly can’t express how proud I am of this team and what they accomplished this season! They are the hardest working, most dedicated group of athletes, and even more amazing people. They deserve this!" said Greenwich varsity cheer head coach, Julia Vyskocil, in a news release." Witnessing them push themselves this season, accomplish their goals, and win has been incredible. But, watching them find confidence in themselves, recognize the hard work and effort they have put in, develop mental resilience, grow as people, and support each other, has been the real reward for me. These girls made history, and I am so incredibly honored to be their coach!"

In addition to the stellar season, five athletes were selected as CHSCA All-State Cheerleaders: seniors Jane Trager (All-Academic) and Siera Rollins and juniors Claire Kilcullen, Ingrid Imp and Leila Alza.

Three athletes were selected as All-FCIAC Cheerleaders: Trager, Rollins and Sierra Erensen. Five athletes were also selected as NCA All-American Cheerleaders: Trager, Rollins, Erensen, Imp and sophomore Darby Kent.
