According to a story in the New York Times following Traub's death in 2012, Traub helped turn Bloomingdale’s "from a stodgy Upper East Side family department store into a trendsetting international showcase of style and showmanship in the 1970s and ’80s."
Traub climbed through the ranks, and became president of Bloomingdale's in 1969, and later chairman and chief executive in 1978, the NYT said, noting that he welcomed Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip during America's Bicentennial festivities in 1976.
