In Memoriam: Filomena 'Fannie' Severo

The lifelong Greenwich resident passed away Dec. 14 at the age of 102.

Filomena ‘Fannie’ Severo passed away on December 14, 2015.

She was born on October 23, 1913 in Riverside. Fannie was baptized in December 1913 at St. Catherine Of Siena Church in Riverside. She was a charter member of St. Catherine Of Siena Parish which was founded in the same year.

Fannie was one of eight siblings born to Santo and Mary Ferraro.

Ferraro family members lived for 77 years at 4 Sheephill Road in Riverside. Fannie was married to Earl Severo. Earl and Fannie were lifelong Greenwich residents. They moved to 11 Maple Drive, Old Greenwich in 1954. Earl passed away in 1971.

Fannie is survived by her sons, Earl ( Joan formerly Skogstrom ) of Lompoc, CA., Frank of Byram, and a sister Florence Frangione of Trumbull. Also survived by her 5 grandchildren, Lori, Mike, Karen, Frankie, and Craig. She has 11 great-grandchildren, Michael, Dominic, Sydney, Josie, Samantha, Victoria, Jordon, Casey, Charlie, Nevin, and Myrn. Family members also include several nieces and nephews.

Fannie was predeceased by a sister Rose, her brothers Angelo, John, Joe, James, Ralph, and a daughter in law Marie ( Proud Foot ) Severo.

Fannie moved to Hill House in October 2004. Fannie traveled several times to Montreal and Quebec for summer vacations in the 1948-1951 time frame. She traveled through New England as well as Virginia, Florida, Nevada, and California. She loved her time in West visiting the many historical landmarks.

Over the 102 years, Fannie has witnessed many historical events. As a member of the Greatest Generation, she lived through the Great Depression, World War II and the Korean War. Fannie loved to take care of children and she worked until 90 years of age in this special line of work. Her hobbies were reading, gardening and walking. Fannie was blessed with a loving family.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 20, from 4 to 8 P.M. at Castiglione Funeral Home, 544 Old Post Rd #3, Greenwich. A mass will be held on Monday, December 21, at 10 A.M. at St. Catherine Of Siena Church, 4 Riverside Ave., Riverside. Burial to follow at St. Mary Cemetery, 399 North St., Greenwich.
