In Memoriam: Robert A. Cucuel Sr.

The former Greenwich resident passed away Dec. 12 at the age of 85.

Robert A. Cucuel Sr., a loving caring Husband, Father, Brother, and Grandfather, who had recently lived in State College, Pa. and Ponte Vedra, Fla.; died at Paoli Memorial Hospital , this past Saturday morning.

Pre-deceased by his loving wife Mary F. Cucuel, he was the son of Arthur Cucuel and Ethel Ward Cucuel, of Greenwich.

Robert is survived by his two children Robert A. Cucuel, Jr. of Haverford, PA and Kathy Cucuel Lautensack of Berwyn, PA and his younger brothers Kenneth Cucuel, of Hanover, NH and Gary Cucuel, Williamsburg, VA.

He was born in Greenwich, Connecticut and lived there until graduating from Greenwich High School, in 1948. He then travelled to Germany, serving his country in the Army. He played Basketball all throughout Europe, for the Army. His basketball talents were recognized and he was recruited by one of his superiors to attended Loyola University, in Baltimore Maryland. He Captained Loyola Basketball 1954-55 team which finished second in their conference. He was instrumental in helping to establishing the legacy of the Loyola basketball program , that continues on today.

He earned his MBA from New York University and worked diligently for nearly 25 years in the brass and copper industry, for Olin Corporation. Robert and his family lived in Greenwich, Conn., Frontenac, Mo., Lake Forest Ill., and Fairfield, Conn. He then later moved to State College, PA in 1980, where he eventually retired.

In retirement he enjoyed playing Golf, watching Penn State sports, and was an active volunteer for the special Olympics. He was a devout Catholic and volunteered time at the Campus Ministry at Penn State. In more recent years, he enjoyed his winters in Ponte Vedra, Florida and continued to play golf and enjoy spending time with his late wife and friends on the beach.

After the untimely death of his beloved wife, Robert in the last year spent more time with his son , daughter and his three grandchildren, Robert A. Cucuel III, Michel V. Lautensack, and Bridget A. Lautensack.

A Memorial Mass will celebrated Friday December 18, 2015 in St. Mary’s Church. Greenwich, Friends may call on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Fred D. Knapp & Son Funeral Home, 267 Greenwich Ave. Greenwich,
