What Road in Greenwich Needs a Speed Bump?

We asked Patch readers on Facebook what streets they thought needed a speed bump. Find out what your neighbors told us.

GREENWICH, CT - Over 9,000 fatalities occurred nationally during 2014 due to speeding according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The data also shows a correlation between a driver’s age and the likelihood of a speed-related accident. As the age of a driver increases, their risk of being in an accident decreases. Men are also more likely to be at the wheel during a speeding accident, according to the study.

While the number of speed-related fatalities have continually decreased since 2005, speeding still remains an issue in many of our Patch communities, including Greenwich. Readers suggested everything from increased police presence to more stop signs to building less housing to keep traffic at bay.

If you’re frustrated with speeders in a certain part of Greenwich, you are in good company. We reached out to readers on Facebook, asking which local road they thought needed a speed bump. Here’s what your neighbors told us:

  • "All of them!"
  • "Pemberwick, towards the Mill side! Too many accidents! And believe it or not, Buena Vista! Our street is a small horseshoe but too many put the pedal to the metal!"
  • "Wessels place in Byram. They drive crazy fast near a school and ball field. Only reason no speed bump is its western Greenwich."
  • "Richland Rd. People drive crazy and there is a school right there."
  • "Highland Rd in Byram! So many kids playing in the street and people speed though the road using it as a cut through. So dangerous..."
  • "My dog just died on North Street. She got hit by a big truck. Please slow down, everyone!"
  • "Fieldpoint - it's a racetrack for out-of-towners flying to highway."
  • "Davis Ave. Kids walk home from JC and people are doing 50 down the road and ignore the cross walk. Someone is going to get hit."
  • "Orchard St in Cos Cob. All the big trucks use it for a cut through to the back country. Plus busses and cares speed up on Orchard St. Afraid for the kids!"
  • "Doubling Road. The section between Hill and Dingletown. It is dangerously narrow, twisty with lots of dogs and kids. Many use it as a cut through to avoid driving Dingletown. They drive well over the 25 MPH speed limit. More like 45-50 MPH! Speed bumps would be a welcome addition!"
