Alice Lauret Depolo Barbieri, 100

Alice spent the last 24 years of her working career (through her 98th year) as a cashier at Quinnipiac University in Hamden.

Alice Lauret Depolo Barbieri, 100, died in Louisville, Colorado on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013.

She was born on Dec. 1, 1912 in New Haven. Her early career included co-ownership in an undergarment factory, as well as a restaurant, with both businesses in New Haven.

Alice spent the last 24 years of her working career (through her 98th year) as a cashier at Quinnipiac University in Hamden.

She was an avid gardener, knitter, mushroom enthusiast, home decorator, and cook.

Alice, sixth in the order of eight children born to Frank and Clemintina DePolo, was predeceased by her seven siblings, the first four of whom were born in Pieve di Cadore, Italy.

Alice and her husband Frank Barbieri (Frankie Barber) were long-time Hamden residents. Alice is survived by two sons, Peter and Jonathan Barbieri, as well as two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. All revel in her long and productive life and feel fortunate to have had Alice with them in Colorado for the past two years.

Her funeral will leave Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the Peter H. Torello & Son Funeral Home, 1022 Dixwell Ave., Hamden and at St. Ann's Church at 10 a.m. Interment in All Saints Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
