Erik Cottle obituary: Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, East Haven

Erik Cottle 48 of Branford, formerly of East Haven, passed away unexpectedly on October 29, 2025 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born September 16, 1977 in New Haven to Charles Cottle (2016) and Jill (Deck) Cottle. Erik is survived by his son, John Cottle of Branford, mother, Jill Cottle of East Haven, longtime companion, Seble and siblings; Charles Cottle (Stacylynn) of Norwich, Mark Cottle of Hamden and Greg Cottle (Leah) of Webster, MA. He is also survived by his three nephews; David, Matthew and Christopher Cottle along with cousins, aunts, uncles and countless friends.
Growing up, Erik spent countless days playing sports and video games with his brothers and cousins. He attended East Haven High School where he graduated in 1995. Erik played three sports for the East Haven Yellowjackets, but was most proud of his time on the football field as the team’s quarterback.
Erik became a father to his son John in 2011. Fatherhood was the greatest gift he ever received and he loved spending time with his son and going to his games. Erik was especially proud to attend a tournament that John played in at the National Baseball Hall of Fame a couple years ago.

Erik was the glue within his extended family. He was always there with a joke or encouragement to get anyone to gel in any situation. He has been described as sweet, loving, and caring. His favorite place to be was at the family cabin in the Poconos. He enjoyed family reunions there, biking, kayaking, cooking, swimming and enjoying all of the outdoors. The cabin and family life will never be the same without him.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday November 4, 2025 from 4 PM until the time of service at 6:30 PM in the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers and in memory of Erik Cottle, a beloved member of our Branford community, left us with a legacy that continues to inspire. His passion for basketball and dedication to youth sports were evident in every moment he spent coaching and supporting his son, John. Erik’s commitment to fostering teamwork and confidence in young players was truly remarkable. To honor his memory, we have established this fund to support Branford youth who need financial assistance to participate in local basketball programs. Your donation will help ensure that every child who shares Erik’s love for the game has the opportunity to step on the court. All contributions will be managed by the Cottle family and directed toward covering registration fees for children in need. This initiative reflects Erik’s spirit of generosity and mentorship, and we are grateful for your support during this difficult time. Thank you for helping us keep Erik’s legacy alive and for supporting the future of Branford’s youth. Warm regards, The Cottle Family https://gofund.me/00633b3c8
