Beloved Former Spring Glen Hardware Building To Be Demolished In Hamden
Officials are advising residents of a road closure and parking ban due to the demolition of the former historic store in Hamden.

HAMDEN, CT — The beloved former Spring Glen Hardware & Appliance store building is being demolished on Thursday, officials announced.
The structure at 1666 Whitney Avenue in Hamden has been “determined to be unsafe by both the property owner’s structural engineer as well as Hamden’s Building Officials,” according to a news release from the Mayor’s Office.
The historic store closed in late 2022 after 60 years in business.

Road Closure:
Beginning at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 13, one southbound lane of Whitney Avenue between Hawthorne Avenue and Central Avenue will be closed until further notice.
Additionally, Hawthorne Avenue between Gordon Street and Whitney Avenue will also be closed to thru traffic, bicycles, and pedestrians until further notice.

Parking Ban:
Effective at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, town officials have proclaimed a parking ban for southbound Whitney Avenue between Hawthorne Avenue and Central Avenue.
This ban is being proclaimed pursuant to Section 70.34 (13) of the Code of the Town of Hamden. As per this section, no person shall park or allow to remain parked, any motor vehicle on any portion of any highway to which it applies. The parking ban shall expire at the conclusion of the work on Southbound Whitney Avenue between Hawthorne Ave and Central Ave, and a separate announcement will be issued.
