Fourth Man Held in July 2010 Shooting

Elliott Drive man was seriously injured; police have investigated for two and a half years, which led to the four arrests.

 

The two-and-a-half-year investigation into the shooting of an Elliott Drive man has led to a fourth arrest.

Hamden Police on Wednesday arrested Anthony Carmichael Jr, 23, of 118 Hobart St., New Haven at Meriden Superior Court, according to police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith. He was charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery and criminal attempt to commit first-degree robbery.

Carmichael was charged in connection with the July 2, 2010 shooting of John Belcher, who was 25 when he was shot in the chest and neck. He was found lying face down in the driveway, according to police, and was taken to the Hospital of Saint Raphael with serious life-threatening injuries.

Officers determined that Belchers was confronted by three people wearing face masks, and witnesses told police that at least two of them had guns. Several shots were fired, police said.

Since the incident, Det. Angelo DeLieto has been investigting and he submitted the warrant for Carmichael's arrest, which was approved. On Wedensday he was arrested in court, where he was appearing on unreleated charged, Smith said.

In October, police made the first arrest in the case when they charged Marquis Winfrey Sr., 22, of 28 Fawn Ridge Rd., Hamden, with first-degree assault and criminal attempt to commit first-degree assault.

Then in November, Kevin Blackman, 23, whose last known address is 2671 Dixwell Ave., was charged with first-degree assault and conspiracy to commit first-degree assault. At the time of his arrest, Blackman was incarcerated at the Carl Robinson Correctional Center in Enfield, according to police.

 Marquis Harper, 22, of 37 Duane Road, Hamden, was charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree robbery and criminal attempt to commit first-degree robbery.
