Hamden Leaf And Brush Collection Begins Friday

Hamden residents are asked to put their leaves in a paper bag and tie brush in a bundle with string and twine.

HAMDEN, CT — The Hamden Public Works department will begin collecting leaf and brush Friday, the town announced in a news release. Leaves will be collected through the end of the year, weather permitting.

Residents are asked to place their leaves in paper bags, and bundle and tie brush with string and twine. Bundles should not weigh more than 50 pounds, exceed four feet in length, or contain pieces with a diameter larger than four feet. Residents are asked to place bundled brush and bagged leaves at the curb, away from any garbage, in a location that does not obstruct a fire hydrant, sidewalk, driveway, or street. Root systems, grass clippings, and soil will not be picked up.

Leaves and yard waste must be bagged or bundled in order to be collected. Residents with a physical disability that prevents them from bagging their leaves can petition the town to pick up leaves raked to the curb. Residents who rake their leaves to the curb without approval from the town may be fined $100 per day, the town said.
