Hamden Library To Host 'There, There' Book Discussion

Observe Native American Heritage Month with the Hamden Public Library as we read and discuss Tommy Orange’s debut novel "There, There" for our November Book Club. Please join us Monday, November 28, 2022 to discuss the novel at 6:30 p.m. in the Thornton Wilder Hall. Please sign up in advance for this event by clicking here.

A New York Times bestselling novel, Pulitzer Prize finalist, and winner of the 2019 Hemingway Foundation/PEN award, "There, There" tells the story of twelve Native Americans as they prepare for the upcoming Big Oakland Powwow celebration. From Dene Oxendene, who is performing at the Powwow to honor his deceased uncle’s memory to the teenager Orvil, performing traditional Native American dance in a powwow for the very first time, the twelve characters who narrate the entirety of the story are complex, human, and beautifully brought to life by Orange. By the beginning of the Big Oakland Powwow Celebration, all paths will be crossed for a night of tradition, community, heroism, and ultimately, sacrifice.
