Hamden Welcomes Two Businesses

Mayor Scott Jackson and Economic & Community Development Director Dale Kroop announced recently that the Legislative Council approved two tax incentive benefits for RiteQuote Insurance and Tri-Con Construction. Both businesses are relocating to Hamden.

RiteQuote Insurance is relocating from Southington to Hamden and will be rehabilitating and moving into an older two-family home located at 1912 State Street. This home is across the street from the East Ridge Plaza at the heart of the lower State Street Business District. The business is investing approximately $77,000 into the property.

An Incentive Agreement for the ongoing project at 400 Goodrich Street that will house Tri-Con Construction was also extended. Tri-Con Construction is investing $260,000 into the property. In addition, the Hamden Economic Development Department and Development Corporation assisted in rehabilitating the property of massive environmental contamination over the last several years as part of a multi-departmental, state and local effort, which was funded with grant dollars. This project will soon turn a contaminated, vacant and non-revenue producing property into a vibrant, clean and tax producing property in southern Hamden.

“We work hard to bring new businesses into Hamden, particularly in this economy," Jackson said. "They provide services, create jobs, and add to our tax base. The problem is that every municipality is trying to do the same thing.

"I am proud that our Economic Development Department and these incentive programs help us achieve success,” said Jackson.
