Man Convicted Of Sexual Assault In Quinnipiac Dorm In Hamden

HAMDEN, CT — A Berlin man has been convicted by a jury of sexually assaulting a woman in a dorm room at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, according to officials.

Daniel Cervoni, 23, was found guilty by a jury Thursday in New Haven Superior Court of one count of second-degree sexual assault, New Haven Judicial District State’s Attorney John P. Doyle Jr. announced.

“Evidence at trial showed the defendant sexually assaulted a woman in a dormitory on the campus of Quinnipiac University while she was physically helpless,” according to a news release from the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice. “Evidence established that Cervoni, the victim, and three other friends were visiting a mutual friend in the dormitory after a night out in New Haven. During the night, the defendant was observed by witnesses engaging in sexual intercourse with the physically helpless victim.”

Officials said that at the time of the assault, both the defendant and the victim were not students at Quinnipiac.

Cervoni faces a mandatory minimum prison sentence of nine months and a maximum of 10 years to serve when he is sentenced on Feb. 13 in New Haven Superior Court, according to officials.
