Man Sentenced In Killing Of 18-Year-Old In Hamden

At the sentencing, the judge said the man "intentionally and purposely targeted and hunted" the teen until his task was accomplished.

HAMDEN, CT — A New Haven man has been sentenced to serve 52 years in prison in connection with the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old man in Hamden in 2021, New Haven Judicial State’s Attorney John P. Doyle Jr., announced.

Lamont Quadir Smith-Reed, 22, was found guilty by a jury in New Haven Superior Court on Sept. 19 of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

According to evidence introduced at trial, Smith-Reed fatally shot the victim, 18-year-old Semaj Reddick-Streater of Hamden, near a Hamden convenience store on May 30, 2021, officials said.

An arrest warrant was obtained on May 17, 2022, after an intensive investigation, according to officials.

At the sentencing, New Haven Superior Court Judge David L. Zagaja said that Smith-Reed “intentionally and purposely targeted and hunted Semaj Reddick until his task was accomplished,” according to Doyle.

The case was investigated by the Hamden Police Department and was prosecuted by Supervisory Assistant State’s Attorney Seth R. Garbarsky and Assistant State’s Attorney Sarah E. Jones, with assistance from Inspector Michael Mastropetre.

Doyle thanked the Hamden Police Department for “their investigative efforts, as well as the FBI in New Haven and the State of Connecticut Division of Scientific Services for their cooperation and assistance,” according to the news release.
