New Trader Joe’s Store Confirmed For Hamden, Documents Show

The popular national grocery chain has been confirmed to be opening a new store in Hamden.

HAMDEN, CT — A new Trader Joe’s grocery store has been confirmed to be coming to the former LA Fitness building on Skiff Street in Hamden, town records show.

Building permits have been filed with the town to renovate the space at 46 Skiff St. into the new grocery store.

“Tenant Finish out of a Trader Joe's,” reads the work description on the permit application. “Change of Use from Gym (LA Fitness) to Grocery Store (Trader Joe's).”

The estimated project cost for the is $500,000, according to the document.

The Connecticut Scoop first identified Trader Joe’s as the “mystery store” that was being proposed at the property.

A Trader Joe’s spokesperson told the New Haven Register last month that a Hamden location hadn’t been confirmed yet.

The Register previously reported that a portion of the former gym space will be a Trader Joe's while the remainder will be occupied by as of now unnamed tenants.

There is no current timeline for the opening of the store.

Trader Joe's has current locations in Glastonbury, Manchester, West Hartford, Stamford, Orange, Fairfield, Danbury, Westport, and Darien. The company's website also lists Shelton.
