Obituary: Daniel J. 'Danny' Lion, 70, Of Hamden

Daniel J. “Danny” Lion, 70, of Hamden, beloved husband of Helene Dobrowski Lion, passed away on July 24, 2025, surrounded by his family at Yale New Haven Hospital. Loving father of Kaitlin (Jose) Pizzaro.

Danny was born in New Haven on August 10, 1954, son of Alberta Gervasio Lion and the late Dr. Daniel J. “Doc” Lion. Brother of Richard (Della) Lion, Judy (Tony) Carbonella, Tommy (Cindy) Lion, Angela Dickson, Maria DelVecchio and John (Christine) Lion. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Brother-in-law of Diane (Gary) Orlando.

Prior to his retirement, Danny was employed by the City of New Haven, working in the Finance Department. He had a passion for golf, music, playing poker and cheering for his favorite football team, The San Francisco 49ers.

Family and friends are invited to go DIRECTLY to St. Paul VI Parish at St. Rita Church, 1620 Whitney Ave., Hamden WEDNESDAY morning July 30, 2025 to celebrate A Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Family and friends may call TUESDAY from 4pm to 8pm at the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte. 80), East Haven.
