Press release
HAMDEN, Conn. - Eight Quinnipiac University professors were recognized with awards during a Celebration of Faculty on Monday, May 5, in the Mount Carmel Auditorium.
“The faculty are the heart and soul of the institution,” said Provost Debra Liebowitz. “It is through your teaching, research and service that students are inspired to go on and accomplish what they do. Their horizons are widened to think differently about what is possible.”

The James Marshall Award was created by the Faculty Senate shortly after the sudden death of James Marshall, assistant professor of health management, in April 2002.

Marshall was known for his community work, including serving as chairman of Quinnipiac's Black History Month Committee. The award recognizes faculty who exhibit qualities of unselfish service and dedication to the university community.
“This is our community,” Fullick-Jagiela told her colleagues. “We keep it strong by showing up, rolling up our sleeves, working side by side and continuing to show up for one another. We cannot do this work alone. It's important to remember that our strength lies in our community and our collective support for one another.
“Let's take this opportunity to check in with each other,” Fullick-Jagiela continued. “Let's continue to build a campus community where belonging, empathy and understanding are at the forefront – where we take pause and truly listen, especially when it gets quiet.”
Nancy Defrancisco, practitioner in residence in the School of Education, was honored with the Outstanding Adjunct Award, which was established in 2021 to honor an exemplary member of Quinnipiac University’s part-time faculty. It is administered by the Office of Academic Innovation and Effectiveness.
Kathleen Kelley, professor of physical therapy, was the winner of The Saulnier Family Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Faculty Fund, which honors the legacy of the late Quinnipiac professor Bruce M. Saulnier, supports faculty participation in regional, national, and/or international conferences and initiatives on teaching and learning.
In addition, the following earned Faculty Scholar Awards: Henry Adobor, professor of entrepreneurship and strategy; Karen Majeski, associate professor of occupational therapy and program director of post-professional OTD; Mary Schmitt, assistant professor of film, television and media arts, Jaime Ullinger, professor of anthropology; and Wayne Unger, assistant professor of law.
The Faculty Scholar Award is presented to faculty who have demonstrated a high level of commitment to producing outstanding scholarship or creative works. Each year, the nine schools and the College of Arts and Sciences are invited to nominate one member of their faculty for this award.
