Wrong-Way DUI Driver Arrested After Crash On Route 15 In Hamden: PD
State troopers received a wrong-way detection alert that a driver was going in the wrong direction on Route 15, according to police.
HAMDEN, CT — A Stamford man was arrested after police said he was driving the wrong way while under the influence of alcohol before crashing on Route 15 in Hamden on Monday night.
Troop I in Bethany received a wrong-way detection alert at the Route 15 South Exit 60 off-ramp in Hamden showing a silver Infiniti sedan driving in the wrong direction around 11:15 p.m., according to Connecticut State Police.
Police said troopers quickly responded to the area and found that an Infiniti had crashed into the guardrail on the off-ramp, and sustained significant front-end damage that left the vehicle disabled.

Troopers also found a man standing outside the vehicle, who was identified as the driver and reported no injuries, according to police.
Police said the driver, identified as 31-year-old Travis Lamont Williams of Stamford, displayed “signs of impairment.”

“While speaking with Williams, Troopers detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and observed his eyes were bloodshot and glassy,” police wrote in a news release. “Williams admitted to consuming alcohol before the collision. Based on these observations, Troopers asked Williams to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Williams agreed but failed to perform the tests to standard.”
Williams was arrested and charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol / drugs, failure to drive in proper lane, driving the wrong way on a divided highway, and second-degree reckless endangerment. He was released after posting a $5,000 bond with a court date of Dec. 20.
