1 Dead, 1 Injured In Ledyard Route 117 Wreck
A head-on car crash overnight killed a man and hospitalized another.

LEDYARD, CT — One person died and another was injured in a head-on crash in Ledyard early Thursday morning, according to a police statement. The wreck occurred at 2:22 a.m. on Route 117 in front of house 1187.
Robert J. Golden 2nd, 49, of 177 Briar Hill Road in Groton, was driving a 2014 Hyundai Elantra. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe he was driving south on Route 117.
Jeremy Gavitt, 32, of 22 Brandywine in Westerly, RI, was driving a 2016 GMC Envoy. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. Police believe he was driving north on Route 117.

Police said that damage to both cars was extensive. The initial investigation was done by the Regional Accident Investigation Unit, which includes Ledyard, Groton Town, and Stonington police.
The ongoing investigation will be led by the Ledyard Police Accident Investigation Unit.
