1 Dead, 3 Injured In Route 12 Crash In Ledyard: Police

A three-car crash resulted in a death and three injuries Tuesday afternoon.

LEDYARD, CT — A woman was killed and three others were injured in a three-car crash Tuesday afternoon, according to police. Police responded to a 911 call reporting a three-car accident on Route 12 at the intersection with Oakridge Drive in Ledyard at 4 p.m.

Fire personnel said one of those involved suffered life-threatening injuries, and CPR was in progress.

Anna Mercado, 74, a rear passenger in a 2014 Nissan Rogue, was treated for life-threatening injuries. She was transported to Backus Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The Nissan's driver and a front passenger were also injured in the crash and transported to Backus Hospital.

The driver of a Chevy Colorado was injured in the crash and transported to Backus Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of a 2017 Toyota 4Runner was not injured.

A preliminary investigation found that the Nissan Rogue was traveling southbound on Route 12 when it crossed over the center line into the northbound lane, sideswiping the Chevy Colorado before hitting the Toyota 4Runner head-on in the northbound/breakdown lane, according to police.

The accident remains under investigation. Any witnesses are asked to call the Ledyard Police Department at 860-464-6400 and speak with Officer Matthew Andrade #733.
