LEDYARD, CT — A Gales Ferry woman is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol with a child in the backseat, police said.

Angel L. Adamson, 49, of Lincoln Drive, was charged Wednesday with risk of injury to a minor and driving under the influence, according to police Captain Ken Creutz.

Police on patrol Wednesday saw a parked, running vehicle with its lights on outside Ocean State Job Lot on Route 12 at about 12:30 a.m.

Police said Adamson was sitting inside the vehicle, and when police spoke to her, she had a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her breath.”

“When questioned, she was unsure how long she had been in the lot,” police said.

Police also found alcoholic beverages within her reach, according to Creutz. Police said Adamson refused to perform a field sobriety test.

A child was asleep in the backseat at the time, according to police.

Adamson was released on a $1,000 non-surety bond. She is due to appear in New London Superior Court on Oct. 8.
