Ledyard Dad Is 'A Devoted Father, Husband & Friend,' Daughter Says
Father's Day is the perfect time to give a big thanks to all the dads who put smiles on our faces. Ledyard, meet Roscoe Van Dyne.

LEDYARD, CT— Father's Day is the perfect time to give a big thanks to all the dads who put smiles on our faces. Ledyard, meet Roscoe Van Dyne.
If you know a dad who sends sweet, silly or thoughtful texts your way, you’re pretty lucky. Texts from Dad have a way of putting a smile on our faces — and this Father’s Day, we’re celebrating the fathers behind the phones!
Patch has partnered with T-Mobile to shine a light on awesome dads and the funny, insightful things they say. This submission comes from Brenda Lariviere who nominated Roscoe Van Dyne of Ledyard.
What makes your dad extra special?
My father is a 20-year vet from the US Navy! He’s worked all his life! As a child, he worked countless hours on the farm, then joined the Navy right after graduating high school, met my Mom on a stay in Maryland, got married and they had five children! Once retiring from the Navy my father started working at EB and stayed working for over 30 years and also worked part-time at Salem School as a beloved custodian! Even after retiring from EB he went full time at the school and worked until he was in his late eighties and only retiring to care for my mother whose health was declining! Still, at 91 my dad gets up every morning fixes my mother's breakfast, spends the day catering to her every need and tries his best to help around the house, doing chores. My father has always been a fearless, hardworking man but has always been a devoted father, husband and friend to all! My dad is my hero and always will be!
Why do you feel your dad deserves the spotlight?
He’s a miracle! After a heart attack, a pacemaker, arthritis and heart failure the man is still waking up a devoted husband, working around the house, still worries and helps out his adult children, loves his grandchildren and great-grandchildren! He still has his memory intact, tells awesome funny stories, and swears like a trooper but would give the shirt off his back for anyone in need!
Happy Father’s Day to Roscoe Van Dyne, and thank you for all you do!
