Ledyard Fire Chief Makes History With Life Membership Award

The fire company's longest-serving chief, and youngest life member, was recently honored at the company's 74th Annual Awards Banquet.

LEDYARD, CT — Every community has first responders who are leaving a local legacy in the areas they serve.

In light of this, Patch and T-Mobile are spotlighting local EMTs, firefighters and police officers who are making a difference in their communities.

In Ledyard, Fire Chief Jonathan Mann was awarded Life Membership at the Ledyard Fire Company’s 74th Annual Awards Banquet last month.

Officials said the membership status is based not only on a person’s “commitment and longevity to our organization, but by how well they represent our values as a fire company,” according to a post on the Ledyard Fire Company’s Facebook page.

“Chief Mann joined our department in 2007 at the age of 14,” the post reads. “After completing our 4 year cadet program, he went on to obtain his certifications to become a firefighter and it wasn’t long after that he started to climb up our officer ranks. He has held every fire officer position that we have. From Chief Engineer all the way up to and including Chief.

“When Jonathan was elected Chief at the age of 23 he was the youngest member that we had ever elected to the position. That was nearly 10 years ago, he has now become our longest serving Chief and after last night has become our youngest life member.”
