Madison's Education Grants Would Dip In Lamont's Proposed Budget

The town would also see a decrease in other grants from the state under the governor's proposed two-year spending plan.

MADISON, CT — Fairfield is looking at a drop in the education grants it receives from the state, under Gov. Ned Lamont's proposed two-year budget.

The town is estimated to receive $395,466 in education grants from the state for Fiscal Year 2025, but that amount would drop to $380,241 in Fiscal Year 2026, and dip again in FY 2027 to $365,019.

Overall, the governor is proposing about $160 million more in funding for education grants throughout the state.

Lamont's proposed two-year budget is $55.2 billion, or $27 billion in FY 2026 and $28.2 billion the following year.

In addition to education grants, the state also gives grants to municipalities to help make up for non-taxable properties, such as schools and churches.

Under this grant program, Madison will again see a decrease in Lamont's spending plan.

Madison is estimated to receive $1,575,490 in municipal-specific grants in FY 2025, and it would decrease to $1,555,837 in FY 2026. That figure would dip again in FY 2027 to $1,540,615.
