MADISON, CT – MAY 19, 2025 – Madison Lyric Stage, a professional theater company on the Connecticut shoreline, will present We’ve Got Magic to Do: The Music of Stephen Schwartz for four performances from June 20-22 at the MLS theater tent on the grounds of Madison’s historic Deacon John Grave House.

Featuring a talented ensemble of eight singers and a live band, the production will showcase beloved songs by the legendary composer behind Wicked, Pippin, Godspell and more.

This musical celebration pays homage to the Tony Award-winning composer, spotlighting the extensive songbook from both his iconic stage productions and from his acclaimed film scores, including The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Prince of Egypt.

With a career spanning over five decades, Stephen Schwartz has crafted a remarkable repertoire of songs such as All Good Gifts, Corner of the Sky, Day by Day, Defying Gravity, For Good, Meadowlark, Magic to Do, Morning Glow, Popular, and many others, which have left an indelible mark on American musical theater.

“We are thrilled to honor Stephen Schwartz, whose extraordinary contributions have profoundly shaped the world of musical theater,” said Marc Deaton, artistic director of Madison Lyric Stage. “Our production will celebrate his enduring legacy, and we invite everyone to join us for a night of unforgettable performances.”

The concert is directed by Marc Deaton, with musical direction by Nathaniel Baker.

Stephen Schwartz’s illustrious career includes celebrated musicals such as Wicked, Godspell, Pippin, The Magic Show, The Baker’s Wife, Working (which he adapted and directed from the book by Studs Terkel), Rags and Children of Eden. His film collaborations include working with Alan Menken on the scores for Disney’s Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Enchanted, as well as composing the songs for DreamWorks' animated feature The Prince of Egypt.

Among his many accolades, Schwartz is a member of both the Theater Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame and boasts a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His accomplishments include three Academy Awards, four Grammy Awards, and a Tony Award.

Tickets are $55 and are available at madisonlyricstage.org. Performance times are Friday at 7:00 pm, Saturday at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm and Sunday at 4:00 pm at the historic Deacon John Grave House, located at 581 Boston Post Road in Madison.

Madison Lyric Stage’s 2025 mainstage season continues with Peter Shaffer’s iconic drama with music Amadeus in July and August, and Gian Carlo Menotti’s occult opera The Medium in September.
