Student Performances Offered at the Kate Thanks to the Community Foundation of Middlesex County

OLD SAYBROOK, CT - The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, “the Kate”, is pleased to announce a grant from the Community Foundation of Middlesex County to support “Classroom Connections,” a series of school time performances that enhance local curriculum.

Several musical theater or dramatic performances are offered for Middlesex County schools at no charge during the school year. These performances provide access to the arts and are an effective way for students to explore a wide range of topics, such as history, culture, science, and language arts and also encompasses soft skills and artistic expression.

“We greatly appreciate the Community Foundation’s support for this particular program,” said Brett Elliott, Executive Director of the Kate. “Through Classroom Connections we’ve been able to engage more than 2,000 local students in the arts.”

Upcoming performances include EDGAR ALLAN POE’S TALES OF TERROR on Thursday, November 13, 2025 at 9:30 am and 11:30 am. This thrilling and highly interactive performance of Poe’s work is suitable for high school students and brings his words to life as students become active participants in the play.

Coming in February 2026 is HARLEM ON MY MIND, an original musical exploration of the contributions of Black Harlem Renaissance artists for high school students. A compatible program for the State of CT elective course in Black/African American Studies, as well as for history, social studies and music classes.

On April 9, 2026, it’s CAT KID CLUB THE MUSICAL for elementary grades, a hilarious musical adaptation of Dav Pilkey’s Dog Man spin-off series, Cat Kid Comic Club.
