Summer Vegetables Lingering, Fall Crops Peaking At Madison And Area Markets

Summer vegetables sticking around for fall at farmers' markets.

Despite the month, all the rain and the less than desirable temperatures, summer vegetables are still popping up and coming in strong at farmers' markets, according to Rick Macsuga of the Connecticut Department of Agriculture.

"The biggest surprise was all the summer vegetables that are still out there," Macsuga said. "It's kind of nice considering what we've been through."

Macsuga said farms are picking plenty of summer vegetables, like cucumbers, summer squash, peppers and eggplant but that they won't or shouldn't be around much longer.
