MADISON, CT — As the nor'easter approaches, First Selectwoman Peggy Lyons shared a weather alert and details about the town's preparations.

"We can expect a significant storm with possible blizzard conditions," she noted.

Due to forecasted high winds, it is important that all residents take the time now to secure loose items in your yard that have potential to be thrown around by wind, and prepare for extended power outages and tree damage, potentially for an extended period of time.

The town's Emergency Operations Team is coordinating with Eversource and other utility providers for anticipated power outages in our area, she said.

As a precaution, on Saturday all town facilities, beaches, and parks will be closed and all programming activities cancelled.

Please check the town website for the most up-to-date information on the storm and any related facility closures and programming cancellations that might extend throughout the weekend.

She also noted there is no overnight parking on any state or town roads in order to keep the streets cleared for plowing.

"Please take the necessary precautions for this major storm event now, including to prepare for possible power outages," she advised. "If you must travel , keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. In the event of power outages, be sure to run generators outdoors and away from windows and doors."
