Why are you seeking this office?
I’m running for a seat on the Board of Education because I have spent my career working in and learning about schools, and I would like to use that knowledge and experience to support the students, educators, and families in Manchester Public Schools. I believe every student deserves an excellent school where they feel welcomed, included, supported, and challenged. In Manchester, our diversity is our strength, and when we work together, we will continue to build outstanding schools for all children in Manchester.
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it:
The most pressing issue is continuing to support academic achievement through research-backed practices like the science of reading, intensive tutoring for struggling students, and an active approach to combating chronic absenteeism. Students, families, and teachers need support in these areas, and I intend to make sure they have it.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
I have decades of experience teaching students of all ages and studying and improving schools. I hold a Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut in Educational Leadership and Policy, and I bring with me expertise in research-backed practices to create school environments in which students and staff can learn and thrive. I plan to listen carefully to the professionals in Manchester Public Schools, as well as the students and families in our community so we can work together to make sure our schools work for everyone.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
To continue the work of improving Manchester schools, I believe these are the most important areas of focus:
- Learn from and with families
- Strengthen literacy through the science of reading
- Grow every student’s numeracy skills and confidence
- Ensure every student has access to arts programming
- Support students in using technology ethically, responsibly, and skillfully
- Support students in developing self-regulation skills in preparation for a lifetime of technology use
- Treat and support our faculty and staff as professionals
- Ensure a diverse faculty and staff so all students interact with and are supported by adults that look like them
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
I have spent my career working in, learning about, and supporting the growth of schools. I was a K-12 teacher for a decade, and I hold a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy from the University of Connecticut, as well as an M.A. in Teaching Social Studies from NYU and a B.A. in Anthropology and Education from Bowdoin College. Currently, I use this expertise to support schools in doing the hard work of creating change, teaching current and future school leaders as an Assistant Research Professor at the University of Connecticut. I am proud to be endorsed by CSEA SEIU local 2001 and the SEIU state council. I was also awarded the 2025 Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate distinction.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
At Bowdoin College, my alma mater, the “Common Good” is at the center of all that we do. We think about how our actions as individuals and our work as a group benefit the whole community. I carry that with me always as I lead, teach, and build.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I believe in Manchester schools and in the students, teachers, administrators, support staff, and families who make our schools great.
