MANCHESTER, CT — There is a new record for Manchester residents running in the Manchester Road Race.

It came Thursday morning in the shoes of local resident Yankarlos Diaz, who was the first hometown runner across the line at 18th overall with a time of 22:57.

He ran a 4:51 pr mile pace.

Diaz, 24, broke Steve Gates' record for the fastest time by a Manchester resident at the MRR. Gates ran a 22:59 race in 1980 to finish seventh overall.

Andrew Colley won his first Manchester Road Race with a time of 21:09 on the rain-soaked 4.737-mile course. Colley, a 33-year-old from Blowing Rock, NC, overcame a gap of about 20 yards at the 4-mile mark to outlast Edwin Kurgat and Eduardo Herrera at the finish line with a time of 21:09. Herrera was second (21:15) and Kurgat was third (21:19).
