Manchester Remembers 50th Anniversary of King's Speech

Manchester held a ceremony to honor and remember the famous speech delivered by  Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. 50 years ago Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013. 

The event, organized by local resident Kate Nicholas, was held in Center Memorial Park and featured a number of state and local dignitaries, including Mayor Leo V. Diana, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, State Sen. Steve Cassano and U.S. Sen.'s Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy.

Many of the speakers shared their memories of King's speech asking for unity and an end to racial discrimination, reflected it on what it meant to them, and asked that the ceremony and the anniversary of the event serve as a "challenge" to continue to make King's dream a reality.
