MANCHESTER, CT - State Rep. Jason Doucette (D-Manchester, Glastonbury), the chairman of the legislative Banking Committee, has been named a 2024 AARP Legislative Champion for the second year in a row.

The award comes in recognition of the Banking Committee’s passage of Public Act No. 24-75: An Act Concerning the Attorney General, the Banking Commissioner, the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act and Telephonic Sales Calls for Soliciting Consumer Goods or Services.
The bill, which increases the power of the attorney general to protect the financial well-being of Connecticut residents, passed on a bipartisan basis in the 2024 legislative session.

"It is an honor to receive this recognition from the AARP," Doucette said. "In the ever-changing world of financial services and financial technology, seniors are increasingly susceptible to scams and financial exploitation. These two bills that we wrote and passed in 2023 and 2024 will hopefully serve to help seniors in Connecticut to protect their hard-earned assets. It was a pleasure to work with AARP on these bills, and I look forward to our continued partnership as we continue to advocate for our older residents’ financial rights."

"In 2024 the Banking Committee, under the leadership of Committee Chair Doucette, passed legislation that will help ensure that all residents, especially older residents, are protected against deceptive and anti-consumer practices by some financial institutions," AARP State Director Nora Duncan said. "We appreciate the chairman's commitment to consumer protections."

Doucette is a back-to-back AARP Legislative Champion. In 2023, Rep. Doucette received the AARP Legislative Achievement Award for the passage of Public Act No. 23-161: An Act Concerning Financial Exploitation of Senior Citizens, which also protects the elderly from financial exploitation.
