"Why Would Anyone be Willing to Keep Paying Higher Rental Rates?"

She told me she was paying $1450 per month for rent, renting the same home for 4 years and a home that doesn’t fit their needs. OK, so why rent? She told me, no one in her family has ever owned a home. It never occurred to her that she should or even could own a home, instead of collecting paid rent slips.

She contacted me after reading a blog that I wrote a couple of years ago about home ownership. She told me that she was in her 50’s, someone that lost her husband a few years earlier and felt that she wanted to leave her children something more than money. I suppose that this is her right time to become a homeowner.

We spent 45 minutes on the phone then 10 minutes qualifying her for a mortgage. We have estimated a mortgage payment at under $1300. I promised her that I would hold her hand through the process, as she is extremely nervous. I referred her to a Realtor that is close to her age, as that is what she requested. She will make an amazing homeowner, age has no boundary for her.

It takes a lot of courage to think about home ownership, being in her 50’s and never having owned a home before.
