127 MPH Chase, A Cloud Of Dust And 2 Fake IDs Later, Teen Arrested For Route 6 Incident In Mansfield: Police

MANSFIELD, CT — A teen driver who hit 127 mph before hitting another vehicle on Route 6 is facing an abundance of charges, state police said.

State police released a report on the incident to begin the week.

According to arrest and crash reports, at 8:34 p.m. on Nov. 20, a trooper conducting a speed enforcement detail on the eastbound highway portion of Route 6 encountered a 2015 BMW 535xi with 18-year-old East Hampton resident Elliott Galovich driving hitting 127 mph.

As the trooper activated his lights to give chase, he observed a cloud of dust in the distance, according to crash and arrest reports.

As the trooper neared the dust cloud, he saw cones scattered about and a 55-year-old Canterbury woman near a 2021 Toyota Prius that appeared to have been hit from behind, according to crash and arrest reports.

As the trooper was checking on the woman, he noticed the BMW stopped on the right shoulder, which the woman then identified as the vehicle that hit her car, according to crash and arrest reports.

No injuries were reported.

The driver of the BMW was identified as Galovich only after state police confiscated two fake IDs, according to crash and arrest reports.

Charges kept piling up as state police investigated the incident. In all, Galovich was charged with:

  • Reckless driving
  • Failure to maintain the proper lane
  • Possession of a cannabis plant when underage
  • Possession of alcohol by a minor on a public highway
  • Second-degree forgery
  • Second-degree reckless endangerment

Galovich posted a $10,000 bond and is due in Rockville Superior Court on Dec. 8, records show.
