Arrest Made In New Year's Day Borrowed Car Crash In Mansfield

MANSFIELD, CT — A 37-year-old Windham man has been charged in connection with a New Year's Day crash in Mansfield, state police said.

The man was charged via a warrant with driving an unregistered vehicle, evading responsibility, a lane violation and second-degree reckless endangerment.

According to an arrest report, at 7:52 a.m., after a night of heavy rain, state police encountered a Volvo V70 with heavy front end damage on Pleasant Valley Road near Mansfield City Road. The vehicle had crashed into a farm fence and no one was in or near the vehicle, according to an arrest report.

Tire marks and debris were scattered along a sharp curve from the westbound lane into the shoulder of the eastbound side of the road, according to a crash report.

The car had no plates and, it turned out, the man had borrowed it, according to an arrest report. The owner had recently purchased it and did not yet have a chance to visit the Department of Motor Vehicles, according to an arrest report.
