Contractor Accused Of Shady Dealings In Mansfield Home Repair Case

A larceny charge has been filed for a contractor who took a deposit and then skipped out on work in Mansfield, state police said.

MANSFIELD, CT — A Griswold man has been charged with larceny following a home repair investigation in Mansfield, state police documents show.

On Monday, afternoon, 55-year-old Victor A. Jorge Jr. surrendered via a warrant at the state police Troop C barracks, records show. His case dates back to the summer and a warrant accuses him of agreeing to perform work at a residence in Mansfield but never showing up after taking partial payment, state police said.

Jorge has been charged with second-degree larceny and is is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on March 27, according to state police. He posted a $25,000 bond.

According to a warrant, on Sept. 24, a resident of Mansfield contacted state police about a "contractor" who failed to complete a project at her home on Chaffeeville Road for which she gave a hefty deposit.

The woman told state police that, during a furnace service, "extensive mouse damage" was discovered, and a technician recommended that the furnace also be replaced, according to a warrant.

On Aug. 13, apparently on a referral, a contractor named "Victor Jorge" from "Alpha Gas" contacted her with a quote of $6,912.75. She agreed to pay a $4,000 deposit, according to a warrant. Ten days later, he surveyed the work area and appeared to be "professional," according to a warrant.

The last correspondence the homeowner had with Jorge was on Aug. 27, and calls to the original company said there was no formal work order for the home, although bank records showed the deposit check was cashed by Jorge.

The original company said that technicians can seek outside employment, but without creating a conflict of interest. according to a warrant. Despite that rule, Jorge had a reference to "Alpha Gas" on his personal vehicle, according to a warrant. Another furnace contractor then told the Mansfield homeowner the furnace did not need to be replaced, according to a warrant.

When finally reached, Jorge said he was going to perform the work because the homeowner wanted the furnace replaced because of a "smell," according to a warrant Still, he never showed, according to a warrant.

The homeowner identified Jorge in a "photo lineup" and state police also used bank records to compile evidence, a warrant states. State police then applied for a warrant.
