Special Weather Statement Issued for Mansfield

Today’s forecast of very light snow should be nothing more than a nuisance for most of Connecticut.

The biggest concern is the timing of the snowflakes, which will likely be falling in time for when people are driving home from work tonight.

Most of the state will see a coating of slushy snow and rain and up to an inch in more inland locations.

Hartford and Tolland counties are likely to receive up to two inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service’s “Special Weather Statement” and “Hazardous Weather Outlook” for those areas.

It also looks like we’re in for a possibly wintry weekend as there is now a 70 percent chance of snow, ice and rain beginning late Friday in Connecticut, turning to plain rain Saturday morning, and likely mixing back to snow and sleet Saturday night. We’ll continue to update that forecast.

Timing of Tuesday’s light snow

The immediate Connecticut coastline in Fairfield County: snow showers are possible before 2 p.m. and then rain mixes in until 4 p.m. The precipitation changes back to some snow showers too. Snow showers are likely till 9 p.m. Little to no accumulation is expected here along the immediate Fairfield County immediate coastline.

Further along the immediate I-95 coastline in New Haven, Middlesex and New London counties: Rain and snow is expected after 4 p.m. and will continue until 9 p.m. with up to a half inch of snow expected here. Snow showers are expected to last the longest in New London County, and could continue until early Wednesday.

Interior sections of Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex and New London counties:

Snow is expected after 4 p.m. and will continue up until 9 p.m. and there could be an inch of snow accumulation, which could make travel slippery in locations during the commute home.

Hartford and Tolland counties: An area of snow is expected by late afternoon and there could be some heavy snow squalls too. Accumulations of 1 to 2 inches are likely.

“The snow will impact the evening commute with snow covered roads and poor visibilities,” the National Weather Service writes.
