Speeding Underage Drunken Driver Corralled In Mansfield: State Police

It took a while for a suspected drunken driver to notice a cruiser's lights and siren in Mansfield, state police said.

MANSFIELD, CT — A speeding, underage drinker was corralled in Mansfield over the weekend, state police said.

According to an incident report, at 11:41 p.m., a Mansfield resident state trooper on a speed enforcement detail clocked a Toyota Tacoma pickup ahead of his cruiser at 50 miles mph in a 25 mph zone on Hunting Lodge Road, North Eagleville Road and King Hill Drive, according to an incident report.

The trooper activated the cruiser's emergency lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver did't notice it for about a half-mile, according to an incident report. The driver eventually came to a stop on King Hill Drive, according to an incident report.

The driver was a 20-year-old Ridgefield resident, according to an incident report. He had bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol, according to an incident report.

The driver at first denied consuming alcohol prior to driving, but then disclosed that he had "two shots" at a friend's house before going out and then failed a field sobriety test, according to an incident report

He was transported to Troop C, where he was charged with:

  • Speeding
  • Disobeying the signal of an officer
  • Driving under the influence

He was released on a $1,500 bond and is scheduled to appear at Rockville Superior Court on Dec. 4, according to an arrest report.
