Taylor Swift Donates '$1,989' to UConn's HuskyTHON

A student from Storrs got the Grammy Award-winning singer to donate to the benefit for the Connecticut Children's Medical Center.

‘1989’ means a lot, not only to pop star Taylor Swift who won a Grammy Award for her album of that name, but for UConn’s annual HuskyTHON charity dance marathon.

It seems Swift made a donation of $1,989 to the HuskyTHON on Saturday on behalf of a UConn student and long-time devoted fan, according to The Daily Campus.

The Daily Campus is reporting that “Swift made the contribution matching the album’s title to the donation page of Igor Lekontsev, a fourth-semester accounting major” that will benefit the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center.

Lekontsev told The Daily Campus he got Swift’s attention through a Taylor Swift fan page that’s called “Imtheblankspace,” which he said Swift has followed for about a year.

Lekontsev said he was surprised when Swift contacted him via FaceTime on Saturday morning and made the donation.
