MANSFIELD, CT — A home built by E.O. Smith himself is on the market.

Smith, of course, has the high school in Storrs named after him.

Edwin Oscar Smith lived from 1871 to 1960 and served for 28 years in the Connecticut House of Representatives while also having a short stint at the University of Connecticut's interim president in 1908 while it was still Connecticut Agricultural College. Between 1901 and 1916 he was a member of the faculty there.

When he died at the age of 89, Smith was the oldest and longest-serving member of the Connecticut General Assembly.

The regional high school was established in 1958 to serve the towns of Ashford and Mansfield (and now Willington) and named after him.

In 1941, he had the home at 674 Middle Turnpike built for the current owner's grandparents, but it is now on the market for $385,000, according to the online real estate portal Zillow.

It sits on nearly an acre of land.

The home does not have a traditional layout, but a unique first-floor L-shaped living room that flows into a family room.

In all, it boasts three bedrooms and two bathrooms over 1,964 square feet.
