STORRS, CT — School is back in session for a dozen University of Connecticut international students and a researcher who had their visas revoked by the Trump Administration.

UConn notified its campus communities Monday of several "updates on actions taken in recent weeks by the federal government." The full letter can be found here.

One portion welcomed the international students back.

"As reported last week, 13 international students at UConn – 12 current students and one recent graduate completing postgraduate training – had their Student and Exchange Visitor Information System records terminated, which threatened to cause serious disruptions in their academic careers," UConn officials said. "We have learned that all of the impacted students at UConn have now had their SEVIS records restored by the federal government, meaning absent some other unexpected change, they should be able to resume their studies and work at UConn uninterrupted.

"UConn continues to work to provide support for all the impacted students and will share new information as it becomes available."

The visas had been revoked by the U.S. State Department and affected six undergraduates, six graduate students and one alum in a post-graduate professional program, UConn officials said when the March 14 action took place.

Their nationalities are not being released, UConn officials added.

They did say, however, "University officials and students are searching for answers for why the visas were terminated, because the federal government has not informed anyone as to the reasons."

UConn has about 3,450 international students, the vast majority of whom are based at the Storrs campus, officials said.
