2 People Trapped In The Marsh Rescued: Milford Fire Dept.

MILFORD, CT – Milford Fire Department rescued two people trapped in the marsh behind the Audobon Society, Adam Hansen, MFD Public Information Officer, said.

On Tuesday, Aug. 22, fire personnel were dispatched to the marsh behind the Audobon Society at the end of Milford Point Rd. late in the evening, Hansen said.

A call 911 call was received for a report of two people trapped in the marsh, Hansen said.

Due to it being extremely low tide, the people were stuck/trapped in the mud and unable to evacuate the area, Hansen said.

Marine 2 attempted but could not access the area due to the extremely low tide. Members had no other choice but to down exposure suits (Mustang suits) and begin making their way out through the mud/marsh and make contact with the parties, Hansen said.

Both people needed to be dugout/removed from the mud, and a rope system was needed to haul the parties back to shore, Hansen said.

Medical backboards were used to create a stable walking path, Hansen said.

The trapped people were successfully brought back to shore and evaluated by paramedics. Both refused treatment and transport, Hansen said.
