Big Plans for Milford's Downtown Proposed: Report

Additional parking is coming soon and officials hope to attract an anchor-type store for downtown.

Milford’s downtown area will gain 100 new parkings spots within the next three months, and an additional 200 spots over time, said city officials, according to the Milford Mirror.

Officials also hope to attract an anchor-type store downtown as well.

Milford officials recently announced a downtown land purchase, which will be used for extra parking and other various improvements.

Milford Mayor Benjamin G. Blake said the busy downtown area hosts many shops and restaurants, but not enough parking for patrons. The new plan for parking should help improve the issue.

The parcels of land the city acquired total 2 or more acres, according to the Connecticut Post. The property acquired is at 44 to 64 River Street, 0 River Street, 145 High Street and 0 Railroad Avenue.

Last year, the State Bond Commission approved $5 million for Milford to purchase the properties.

In addition, Blake said there is a lot of planning and efforts going on to bring in an anchor store.
