MILFORD, CT – The proposed indoor pickleball facility in Milford is becoming a reality after Tuesday’s Planning and Zoning Board meeting.

Milford’s P&Z board unanimously approved the indoor pickleball court facility at 333 Quarry Road on June 20.

Shoreline Pickleball, LLC., was created by a group of friends who decided to turn their hobby into a business venture.

“We want to create a community environment for all ages,” Brian Malia said, a co-owner of Shoreline Pickleball LLC. “We want to make this a Milford staple where the Milford community has a place to come and enjoy pickleball all year round.”

During the P&Z meeting on Tuesday, Attorney Thomas Lynch representing Shoreline Pickleball, said the floor plan is for an indoor-only play on 13,800 square feet divided into five padded courts and a small shower room.

“This is a fast-growing popular sport, and Patrick and Brian want to have this facility address the growing need and look forward to hopefully getting open by the fall,” Lynch said.

The facility would be open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a limit of two to four players per court for a total projection of 24 to 26 people, including staff on-site at any one time.

Lynch said food and beverages are being planned to be served at this time, but he said in the future, there was some discussion of having a luncheonette, dinette or liquor license, but that is not included in the current application.

“They just want to get open and get it off the ground,” he said. “If it takes off, then there may be more amenities they may be looking to add to the facility.”

Julie Nash, economic development director for the city of Milford, spoke in support of the proposed indoor pickleball facility and emphasized the existing adequate parking to accommodate the anticipated need.

“As an avid pickleball myself, I believe this facility will not only provide a valuable recreational resource but also have a significant positive impact on our local economy,” she said.
