Mass Layoffs Incoming As Major Milford Employer To Close

The parent company of a brand-name manufacturing facility has told the state that it will close and eliminate all jobs.

MILFORD, CT — Razor brand Schick will shutter its Milford manufacturing location by the end of 2027, according to a letter the company sent to the state.

Schick's parent company, Shelton-based Edgewell Personal Care, said that 293 jobs will be eliminated as part of the closure. The permanent layoffs at the 10 Leighton Road facility will begin in March and occur in phases until Dec. 31, 2027.

All affected workers will be notified at least 60 days before they're terminated. They will also be eligible to receive severance benefits.

Employees will not have bumping rights, meaning that they will not be able to displace junior employees out of their jobs due to the closure. No union is representing the affected workers.

The company plans to keep its corporate headquarters in Connecticut and will continue to be a prominent employer in the state, a spokesperson told Hearst Connecticut Media.

Edgewell announced the closure and mass layoffs Thursday to the Connecticut Department of Labor and Mayor Tony Giannattasio via the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. This federal law requires employers to provide the government with notification of impending workforce reductions.

In addition to Schick, Edgewell owns several other personal health care brands such as Edge, Banana Boat, and Bull Dog.
