Milford Health Department Rejects Plans For Former M&M Farms

Milford Health Department found 27 areas with incomplete information in the plan submitted by New York Mart CT Inc.

MILFORD, CT — Milford’s Health Department has denied the plans submitted by New York Mart CT Inc. for its remodeling of the former M&M Farms building on 804 Boston Post Rd.

When Milford Health Department Sanitarian stopped construction at 804 Boston Post Rd., the Milford Health Department said they had to submit a plan to be reviewed by the health department.

According to information obtained from the Milford Health Department via the Freedom Of Information Act, after reviewing the plans, the Milford Health Department “Denied with incomplete information.”

On Aug. 14, Milford Health Department sent a letter to Mr. Long Deng, chief executive officer of iFresh, who operates NYM Milford LLC, listing 27 areas where health inspectors said the plan was incomplete.

The letter states the Milford Fire Marshal, Building Official and Sewer Commission needed to be met. Specification sheets for all equipment, including the kitchen, seafood area, meat area, grocery area and basement, were not provided.

Slotted shelving needed to be installed above the bay sink for drying. Several areas still need to be identified, including a dry storage area, shelving in walk-in coolers, and all equipment on the floor plan.

A location for equipment storage and chemical storage was not provided. A floor plan for the basement was not provided, there was inadequate refrigeration in the kitchen and food booths and a preparation sink needed to be provided in the food booth.

The letter also stated employee lockers and an area for employee belongings needed to be installed, and they needed to properly label and identify all equipment on the plan, including but not limited to can openers, knife slicers, knife racks, meat grinders, walk-in coolers and shelving.
