Milford Library staff have released the children's programming for July, including an exotic animal show and Food Explorers.

Summer Reading 2023: Find Your Voice.

Rising grades from kindergarten to fifth grade through Sept. 1.
Read-and-Beat! Read books to earn beads and create a summer reading necklace. Keep track of your books and complete missions to earn prizes on READsquarded or in person. Once registered, visit the Children’s Department to pick up your necklace, brag tag and a special welcome bead.

Outdoor Stories and Songs
Join the Milford Library at the Fowler Pavilion behind the library to share stories and songs on Mondays, July 10, July 24, Aug. 7, and Aug 21 at 10:30 a.m. for ages 0 to five.
Children will read, sing, dance and play with sidewalk chalk, bubbles and more. The program is weather dependent. No seating will be provided, so bring a chair or blanket.
Build It! Family STEM Playtime.
On Tuesdays, July 11 and Aug. 8, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., five-year-old children can play with Keva planks, LEGOS, Picasso Tiles and more. Stations for STEM play will be in the Children’s program room.
Summer Paint Event with the Giggling Pig Milford
On Wednesday, July 12, at 11 a.m., children five to 10 years old will receive step-by-step instruction from a Giggling Pig instructor on how to draw a whimsical summer octopus learning watercolor painting techniques. The Giggling Pig is an art and party studio for children of all ages in the Walnut Beach Arts and Business District.
Registration is required.
Connecticut Since Center: Playing with Polymers
Explore how cross-linking molecules make polymers. Explore different properties of polymers using super-absorbent powders, squishy orbs and stretchy goo.
The event is on Thursday, July 13, at 2 p.m. for kindergarten and second-grade students and 3 p.m. for third through fifth-grade students.
Registration is required.
The Voice of Magic with Matt Matthews.
This magic show is highly visual and extremely interactive. From start to finish, children will raise their hands, wiggling their fingers and shouting out to the magician at every turn. As part of the show, all the children will learn how to do a magic trick, and then every child gets to take home a special souvenir of the trick they’ve learned how to do.
The event is set for kindergarten through fifth grade and their families on Wednesday, July 19, at 6:30 p.m.
Goodnight, Library
Visit the library for an evening family storytime before you turn in for the night on Thursday, July 20, at 6 p.m. for ages five and under.
Food Explorers: Waffle Cone Fruit Salad and Bingo
Join Food Explorers for a delicious summer cooking program. You’ll be making Waffle Cone Fruit Salads. Use fresh, seasonal fruit to create snacks. You’ll also test your food knowledge with a game of food riddle bingo and see how many foods you can guess. The recipe is nut-free but may contain dairy.
The event is scheduled for Wednesday, July 26, at 2:30 p.m. for children in the second through fifth grades.
Outdoor Summer Concert with Al DeCant: Let’s Be Kind.
Join the Milford Library at the Lisman Landing Pavilion for a high-energy, engaging performance with Al DeCant. Al Will use original interactive songs and stories that encourage children to think about how they relate to and treat one another. Sing along, laugh and reflect on how it feels to be in someone else’s shoes.
After the show, cool off with ice cream from Scoopy Doo’s. All children who attend the show will receive a coupon for $1 off and free sprinkles.
The event is scheduled for Friday, July 28, at 2:30 p.m., especially for kindergarten through fifth grade and their families, but all are welcome.
Curious Creatures Animal Show
Learn tolerance, respect and understanding for all animals that walk, slither or crawl on the earth in an entertaining way.
With an interactive and hands-on program, Curious Creatures excels in getting children of all ages (including adults) to interact with and touch exotic animals they would not commonly be around. The mix of creatures consists of reptiles, mammals and insects for the children to learn about.
The exhibit includes a mix of North American, South American, African, Australian, European, Indonesian and Madagascar species.
The event is set for Wednesday, Aug. 2, at 2:30 p.m. for kindergarten through fifth grade students. Registration is required.
