Milford's New Business Opens In Walnut Beach Focusing On Wellness

The new location has been an excellent fit for the needs of the new business at Walnut Beach.

MILFORD, CT – When Shirley Prendergast needed a new space for her business B Well Thermography, she got help from one of her clients, who happened to be a real estate agent.

“I got this location in February 2023, and I got this place completely by accident,” she said.

Prendergast said she had an office in Orange, but her room wasn’t working out for her needs.

“I couldn’t scan properly,” she said. “One of my clients happened to be a real estate agent and told me she said I have the best place for you. So, within a week, I had this new place.”

B Well Thermography is located at 39 Naugatuck Ave., a couple of steps away from the beach area. Prendergast recently held the ribbon-cutting grand opening for her business, put together by the Milford Regional Chamber of Commerce, on Monday, May 22.

Prendergast said she started B Well Thermography in August 2020 after deciding to make a career change during COVID; however, thermography wasn’t a new area for her.

“I was certified for Thermography in 2010, so I have been doing it part-time since,” she said.

Thermography is a radiation-free, state-of-the-art screening procedure that uses heat detection to locate areas of temperature differences in the body. It is used for general breast health assessment. Still, it can also be used for full-body thermal imaging, thyroid screening, lymphatic congestion, nervous system disorders, abdominal inflammation, vascular system analysis and more.

“It is a physiological test, not an anatomical test, so we are picking up heat and vascular activity,” Prendergast said.

Prendergast decided to buy a Thermography camera in 2020 and open her own lab.

“I opened the Orange location, and I was excited to be there, but the room just didn’t work,” she said. “The temperatures have to be perfect; if it’s one degree off, it is a problem. Also, there was more than one person in the office, so it was hard to keep the temperature perfect.”

After finding the new location in the Walnut Beach community, Prendergast said the atmosphere, the energy and the welcoming of the community have been great.

“Some people just come into the office to welcome me to the neighborhood,” she said.
