Obituary: Jean Ann Lewis, 89, Former Milford Resident
Jean was an active member of the PTA, also serving on the Milford Board of Education.

Jean Ann Lewis, age 89, recently residing in Southbury and former resident of Milford, entered eternal rest on Sunday, June 4.2023.
She was the beloved wife of the late James P. Lewis. Sr. Jean was born in Bridgeport on March 30, 1934, and was the daughter of the late Cornelius and Mae (Elliott) Topitzer.

Jean graduated from Milford High School and attended the University of Connecticut. She taught at St. Ann School in Milford for many years.
Having lived in Milford for most of her life, Jean had a genuine love and connection to her hometown.

She loved the beach and lived near it most of her life, ultimately settling in Laurel Beach. In addition, she enjoyed spending time on Cape Cod, where she eventually had a second home.
Jean was an active member of the PTA, also serving on the Board of Education.
She had a deep passion for flowers and gardening, always taking great pride in the beautiful gardens surrounding her home. She spent many years as a member of the Milford Garden Club, also serving as president for a time.
Those who knew her knew the genuine kindness and compassion that made her who she was; Jean’s warm smile was memorable to everyone. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy. Her marriage to her husband, James, for 56 years was one of the greatest love stories of all time. The family is at peace now, knowing they are together for eternity.
Jean leaves four beloved children. Her son, James P. Lewis, Jr. and his wife, Deborah of Faber, VA, three daughters, Mary DiBenedetto and her husband, David of Orange, Emily Kowalski and her husband, Jarett of Milford, and Susan Domizio and her husband, Stephen of Fairfield. She also leaves 11 cherished grandchildren, Gabriella, Alexandra and Joseph DiBenedetto, Nicholas, Benjamin, Olivia and Victoria Kowalski, James and Sean Lewis, and Christopher and Timothy Domizio. Her brother, Neil Topitzer and her twin brother, Gerald Topitzer predeceased her.
Family and friends may call on Thursday, June 8, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Gregory F. Doyle Funeral Home, 291 Bridgeport Ave.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 9, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Saint Gabriel Church (St. Raphael Parish), 26 Broadway.
Interment will follow in Saint Mary Cemetery in Milford.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jean’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
