Obituary: Mounib Samandar, 79, of Milford

MILFORD, CT - (From Cody-White Funeral Home) On Sunday, April 10, 2022, Mounib Samandar passed away at the age of 79. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend in the Milford, Connecticut community.

Born in Birzeit, Palestine on July 28, 1942, he was a Mechanical Engineer for the Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) for 20 years. In 1991, he immigrated to the U.S. with his wife, Mary, and children: Suzy, Suleiman, Samar, and Samer.

He opened the family deli “Post Road News & Deli,” where he and Mary built their family’s future and became all of Milford’s “Mama and Baba” for years to come.

Mounib was happiest in his garden and at the breakfast table, sharing the vegetables and fruits he grew with his family.

He loved barbecuing, bird watching, and his fig trees, which he tended to with the greatest care. Above everything, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and sharing his life and career stories.

He leaves behind his wife, four children and their spouses: Wajdi, Carol and Dorothy, five grandchildren: Dina, Nader, Malina, Ryan and Anna-Marie, and many loved ones.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home 107 Broad Street, Milford, CT 06460. A Funeral Service will take place that evening at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

A Graveside Service will be held Thursday, April 14, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Kings Highway Cemetery, 271 Cherry St., Milford (MEET DIRECTLY AT CEMETERY).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
